Game cameras, also known as trail cameras, are special types of cameras used in hunting and wildlife observation. They are designed to capture the activities of wildlife in their natural habitats. Game cameras are typically installed on trees, poles, or other suitable locations in the forest or open spaces where wildlife is frequently present.

The main function of a game camera is to capture photographs or videos of wildlife that move near the device. The cameras are equipped with motion sensors that trigger the recording when movement or heat from wildlife is detected. This allows the cameras to automatically activate and document significant moments such as wildlife crossings, feeding behavior, mating rituals, or other interesting activities.

Game cameras are usually equipped with infrared flash technology, enabling them to capture images in the dark without startling or disturbing the animals. Some advanced cameras also feature night vision capability, allowing for clear imaging even in complete darkness.

Furthermore, game cameras are typically designed to be durable and weather-resistant, as they are used in natural environments exposed to various weather conditions. Most cameras are resistant to rain, snow, dust, and temperature changes, allowing for prolonged use even in challenging conditions.

Game cameras are popular among hunters as they provide valuable insights into wildlife behavior, help identify prime hunting areas, and aid in monitoring and assessing wildlife populations. They are also useful for gathering data for research and wildlife conservation purposes, as well as ensuring the safety and protection of forested areas.

When choosing game cameras, various factors should be considered, such as image or video quality, motion sensor sensitivity, battery life, storage capacity, user interface usability, and other features that can enhance the user experience. It is also important to adhere to the rules and regulations governing the use of game cameras in your area.

Game cameras are invaluable tools for observing and studying wildlife, contributing to the preservation of natural balance and enhancing the enjoyment of nature.

Game cameras

Game cameras, also known as trail cameras or wildlife cameras, are devices used to observe wildlife in their natural habitat. These cameras are commonly used by hunters, conservationists, researchers, and nature enthusiasts who want to monitor and document the activities of wild animals in their natural environment.

Game cameras are typically installed on trees, poles, or other suitable locations in the wilderness or areas where wildlife frequently appear. They operate based on motion or heat detection, meaning they are triggered and record when they detect movement or a change in temperature within their field of view.

The main features of game cameras include:

Capture of Photos and Videos: Game cameras are equipped with high-resolution cameras that allow them to capture high-quality photos and videos of wildlife in their natural environment.

Night Vision: Many game cameras have built-in infrared LED lights that enable clear image capture even at night or in poorly lit conditions.

Motion and Heat Detection: Game cameras are activated only when they detect movement or a change in temperature within their field of view. This allows them to capture only relevant events, reducing the amount of unnecessary footage recorded.

Long Battery Life: Game cameras are typically designed to have a long battery life, enabling extended periods of operation without the need for battery replacement.

Using a game camera offers several benefits, including:

Wildlife Observation: Game cameras provide valuable insights into the habits, movement, and behavior of wild animals.

Research and Conservation: Game cameras are essential tools for studying wildlife populations, monitoring their status, and contributing to the conservation of natural habitats.

Enjoyment of Nature: Game cameras allow nature enthusiasts to connect with wild animals and experience their world in a closer and more direct way.

When choosing a game camera, it is important to consider factors such as image quality, night vision capabilities, motion detection, battery life, durability, and user-friendliness. It is also important to ensure that the camera is weather-resistant, as it will mostly be installed outdoors in the wilderness.

Game cameras are invaluable tools for observing and documenting wildlife, contributing to understanding and protecting nature, and providing unforgettable wilderness experiences.

Potisna obvestila in ogled v živo

  • Kamera in wifi
  • Kamera s SIM kartico

Redno menjajte baterijo in jo polnite.

4.  brez baterij in na tvoj internet priključek v bližini kjer bo kamera montiranana):

Hunting stand-alone cameras

Professional hunting cameras have to capture photos in ultra high definition e.g. 36 Megapixel and have a 4G gsm module so that when you move, the camera quickly sends the image to your gmail - and the phone notifies you of the received photo

These are stand-alone forest video surveillance cameras and were once designed for animal movements and inspection of feedlots, but today they are increasingly monitoring our assets and real estate.

Hunting camera for weekend surveillance, the house has its own built-in batteries and a recorder, so we can place them anywhere and already visually monitor the desired location. Some hunting cameras have also been added to a hidden microphone where the surroundings are also recorded audio, so we get an independent hidden audio video surveillance system.

zamaskirana lovska kamera

Hunting cameras are today's video surveillance cameras for areas where there is no internet and electricity. We were among the first in Slovenia to start selling hunting cameras.

Hunting cameras without or with mms sending picture to email or phone. Hunting cameras are hidden and have been created for the purpose of hunting animals, but more and more often for monitoring weekends, construction sites or remote locations without electricity and internet.

The special feature of the hunting camera is that it is easy and practical to install, as we only need AA batteries and the cameras will work independently for months, as they turn on and record images with a PIR sensor only when they detect movement and then fall asleep again.

You can view the recordings on the camera screen, or you can receive an SMS notification or email when motion is detected.

The use of hunting cameras is possible every day of the year, regardless of the weather conditions, as they have a reliable IP54 housing standard for protection against heavy rains and can withstand even in cold winters. The camera is intended for personal use.

Hunting cameras are nocturnal invisible cameras which were originally intended as game observation cameras and hunting cameras, hence the common name hunting camera. Later, they expanded to insure real estate, movable property and today they successfully perform the function of security in remote places without the Internet.

The operation of the battery-powered hunting camera and mobile network allows for several months of hidden monitoring of events in the rain or snow. An additional feature like remote sending images to your phone via gprs mms protocol makes this camera indispensable.

Recording of the hunting camera takes place upon detection, when its thermal PIR sensor detects movement, the hunting camera wakes up from deep sleep and captures a photo. He also makes a few seconds of video, which remains on the memory card of the hunting surveillance camera. It sends the image and the video remains on the 16 or 32GB memory card.

It is my opinion that hunting cameras are used more today to hunt people than animals. Thieves, thieves, extremists, hooligans is the word for individuals or groups who take away a huge amount of material from a construction site or do all the general clutter and damage.

Our buyers of hunting cameras are individuals who are harassed by a neighbor or company, who often justify their purchase on the grounds that it is property insurance.

GSM hunting cameras and Sim card to connect to your phone

GSM Hunting cameras also need a memory to store recordings, which can be purchased especially from us in the form of a SDmicro memory card, class10 or HD version. To view the recordings on your computer, simply take the card out of the hunting camera and  insert it into the laptop slot and open it with the click of a mouse. If you have a desktop computer, you will probably need a reader, which is already installed in 99% of laptops at the time of purchase.

Typically, hunting cameras support 16GB to 32GB cards and do not work without memory cards. Ask the seller or contact us before buying.

Sim card for GSM hunting camera to connect to your phone

If the hunting camera model is named with 3G, 4G, MMS or GSM then the hunting camera has a built-in GSM communication module. To transfer images, photos, alarms, SMS notifications, MMS from the hunting camera to your phone, you can use a SIM card, which I recommend you buy from us, as this way you can avoid some inconveniences such as unlocking the PIN code on the SIM card itself. If you buy a camera through us, we already do all this, all we need is to know which email and phone you want the hunting camera to send you pictures. Unlocking the PIN looks like inserting the card into the phone and via the OSD menu under settings, protection turn off the PIN code check at each startup. After that, turn off the phone and insert the SIM card from the phone into the hunting camera.

Additional settings and how to use a gsm hunting camera

GSM hunting cameras often have a lot of unnecessary settings that are not necessary for the average user, if you want advanced settings we can help you with this if necessary. Let me mention that most settings are accessible via the OSD menu of the camera via the arrow keys and some more demanding settings on some models can be set only via the included program and laptop by connecting the camera via the included USB cable to the laptop input.
Now that we are set up we are ready to start to observe with a camera the surroundings of our real estate, wildlife, forest, plant growth. Now we just turn it on and install it in a secret place. Now we are ready and when the movement is detected, the hunting camera will take a photo and send it to a pre-determined phone number of your mobile phone or to your email (depending on how we set up the hunting camera model).

The hunting camera is a great technological tool to find out what is happening in a remote location (especially relevant if it is remote without the Internet and electricity). In the event that the camera detects heat with the help of a built-in PIR sensor and motion, it saves the image on a memory card and at the same time sends it in the form of an MMS message to your email, mobile phone or both sources.

This hunting camera is far from suitable not only for hunters and animal observers, but also for anyone who wants to control their property, whether business or housing, houses, weekends.

In the company private doo we will be able to advise you on the purchase of a hunting camera and set it up accordingly. We can be reached at 051 704 555.

Selection of hunting cameras

The hunting camera is a very popular stand-alone weatherproof camera with its own battery-powered recorder, which solves a wide range of problems and seemingly unsolvable situations. The great thing is the long battery life, which can reach up to 6 months!

When motion or heat detection (PIR) is detected, the hunting camera saves a photo or video, either on a memory card or sends them via MMS directly to your mobile phone, email.

Hunting cameras to catch thieves

Do strangers walk around your property and do you material or mental damage? Would you like to insure yourself and take care of the 24-hour surveillance at night and during the day and find out what's going on there? Don't have internet and electricity in the location where you would place the camera? In this case, it is best to get a hunting camera today!

For  anti-unprepared hunting cameras,  it is important that the camera is especially invisible at night. You will achieve this by taking a hunting camera with an  invisible flash  with a wavelength of  940 nm , which the human eye will not detect, so the bastard will not find the camera. - know that you will not find our hunting camera even in complete darkness, if you look directly into it.

Hunting cameras to combat vandalism are equipped with a GSM module  - photos will be sent to you at the same time as MMS to your phone / email. On top of that, each shot will also be saved on a memory card in the hunting camera. You will need a SIM card, which you get from me. This option requires a few dinars, but with a lease of 7 euros, you will also receive 6000 mms messages per month from Telekom and you will not spend these, but you will have a safe weekend.

What might interest you most about the hunting camera is the shutter speed of the captured photo and the motion detection detector . Captured photo is ok if this happens in 0.5 to 1 second. More important than the shutter speed is that a photo of good sharpness and great detail is captured. In contrast, motion detectors are very similar among hunting camera suppliers and this is between 11-17 m . There are also hunting rifles that have a range of up to 25 meters, but it will be difficult to recognize at this distance if you use a hunting rifle with 16mp. With good recognition you need a 36mp bolyguard camera, which is also our hit.

Hunting cameras against thieves are used not only by hunters, weekenders, entrepreneurs, but also law enforcement officers, municipalities, universities and police officers, rescuers. I think it is good to buy a hunting camera from a verified supplier such as. spyshop where we can arrange service if something goes wrong.

Snyper hunting cameras ensure quality and durability in all weather conditions!

Hunting cameras are equipped with blue LED technology 940nm light, which displays the image in perfect darkness and is invisible to the human and animal eye. The MMS version is equipped with a GSM and GPRS module, which sends an image via MMS / email when a sim card is inserted when motion is detected. Hunting Cameras have the ability to replace batteries that last up to 6 months. Hunting cameras are also used for the purpose of video surveillance in remote places.

We also successfully tested the mms hunting camera at the prepaid mobile operator IZImobil (Telekom network). We inserted a memory card into the computer, started the included CD, selected the camera model and set the "MMS setup" as shown in the picture below. Setting up an MMS camera is very simple and you can do it yourself at home!

Development of a trial camera

The trail camera was originally developed to photograph wild animals and monitor their movements. The trail camera is simple and straightforward made up of a digital camera available in a weatherproof case, flash, motion sensor and efficient battery. Camera sizes are approximately 15 cm x 8 cm x 5 cm (height x width x depth). The trail camera is operated via its own screen (changing settings and browsing saved images). You can also remove the memory card from the camera and transfer the images to your computer in the same way as from any regular digital camera.

With the further development of the equipment, new possibilities for use have been created, for example in the field of surveillance - with the help of tracking cameras it is possible to monitor, for example, buildings, a cottage or a boat. Trail cameras are extremely weather resistant and do not require additional power. In our best models, the camera's own battery will last about 180 days in standby mode! Depending on the camera model, additional power may be supplied from a separate battery or from an AC outlet.

How does a tracking camera work?

The trail camera responds to movement and saves images and video to a memory card. The sensitivity of the motion sensor is adjustable and depending on the camera model, its range is from 10 to 25 meters. In twilight and darkness, the tracking camera illuminates the desired area with an invisible infrared flash. In the latest model, the flash is the so-called infrared flash, which is completely invisible to the human eye. Therefore, the camera is impossible to see in the dark.

In addition to traditional trail cameras, there are also so-called GSM trail cameras on the market. Images are sent in real time to an email address or mobile phone. This way you will always get real-time information from your subject.

An innovation for 2013 are remote monitoring cameras equipped with GPRS image transmission. With GPRS, the camera can send images to several different e-mail addresses in an economical and fast way. The advantage of remote control is the ability to change camera settings and demand whenever you want an image from the camera via SMS or via CamControl.

Used as a surveillance camera?

Most tracking cameras are sold for security and surveillance purposes. The trail camera is small and easy to mask or move when needed. High-resolution images (8-12 megapixels) taken by tracking cameras are several times more accurate compared to blurred images of conventional surveillance cameras. HD video cameras are also available.

There are also useful accessories such as wall wiring, protective housing or mains power supply for surveillance cameras.

Why use a tracking camera?

  • To track and monitor wildlife
  • For control, for example for a cottage, boat, warehouse, construction site, forestry equipment ..
  • No need for network flow.
  • Photography in the dark
  • GSM transmitter (pictures to e-mail address and / or mobile phone)
  • Small, weatherproof construction - the camera is easy to hide and move, depending on the subject.
  • High quality images

Trail cameras are in different price ranges depending on requirements and applications. Price range is from 150-350 €.

The GSM-trail camera works via a normal mobile phone subscription connection. If you use a GPRS-trail camera that can send images to e-mail addresses, it is worth obtaining a data plan from the mobile service provider, so that the communication costs are fixed and the number of images sent from the cameras. does not affect costs.

Tracking camera setup

Setting up a tracking camera is easy. When using a GSM tracking camera, you need to set the specific network settings of the provider, which can be found in the operating instructions. You can change other camera settings directly on your own camera screen.

Use of a tracking camera for security purposes

Does your property need protection or control over the interventions? Due to its small size and weather resistance, the trail camera is particularly suitable for surveillance. The trail camera has your eyes on the field when you are away.
The camera's lithium batteries provide months of operation and / or thousands of captured images. Operating time can be extended with external power supply. The camera will also work at night, in the dark, with the help of an invisible infrared flash.

Adjustable camera motion sensor responds to motion and triggers the camera to capture multiple images from a single shutter release or motion video in the camera's memory. The cameras are also equipped with a timer that allows you to set, for example, the camera's operating time for nights.

Sharp images with a tracking camera - including HD video with audio

Trail cameras capture sharp digital images (8-36 mega pixels). Their accuracy is several times sharper compared to images of conventional surveillance cameras. All images are stored with stamped time, temperature and battery charge level (depending on the model).
We also offer cameras with Full HD video and audio saving function. They store high quality videos.

How can a stand-alone hunting camera be discreet if it shoots with IR lenses even at night?

Why is BLUE LED technology better than standard red LED light? The answer is simple. Because the camera is not visible at night, as the IR LEDs glow at 940nm, which is invisible to the human eye or animal.

Hunting cameras and flash, flash or Slovenian correct flash

A hunting camera in dark conditions needs a flash to capture properly lit specimens, animals, objects. Most of the hunting cameras we sell do not have a classic flash but IR lenses and these are 940nm or 850nm. Real flash cameras are used when hunting animals that are not sensitive to it

Flash without light - 940nm version

Cameras with "non-flashing" flash have built-in blue or. black LEDs that our eyes and the eyes of animals do not see at a distance of more than 1 meter. The shots at night that we will capture with this type of flash will be black and white. This type of flash is the most popular as most of our clients use standalone cameras as hidden cameras and want discretion. The range of the flash is not as long as with other models, but this is less of a problem than if the burglar notices it or if the animal is scared.

Light flash - 850nm version

This option offers a flash that glows and will be slightly reddish most of the time at night. If you are looking for a hunting camera without lighting, this is a good alternative. Night images will also be black and white.

White flash

All images in this type of flash will be colored; night or day. It may provide the best images, but the flash will scare animals and unpreparedness. If we want that, ok too!

GSM hunting camera with diodes that do not glow in the dark and this camera is therefore a really hidden camera that also supports sound and allows you to receive images on the phone. (requires a sim card to work, which you get when you buy the camera for free this time). Waterproof in all weather conditions, the 12 megapixel captured image is therefore useful as an alarm and video surveillance in hard-to-reach places without electricity or internet. The GSM hunting camera has even more LEDs for even better night shots. This camera is capable of recording, motion detection and saves from multiple images and movies up to one minute in HD resolution with sound. All hunting camera settings are shared directly via the screen on the camera. The date and battery status are also displayed when the image is sent. It needs 4 or 8 AA batteries for energy, which can last up to 6 months in ideal conditions. Our test with 2700mAh rechargeable batteries was 2-3 months and depends on the number of shots, in the dark or during the day, of the temperatures. An 16GB or 32GB SD micro card is required to store the images.

A guide when buying a trail hunting camera

Hunting surveillance cameras and their first purchase can be challenging if you read everything that is written online. Night images are important, It is best to visit us at Trieste 297 and find out which hunting surveillance camera is right for you. To make it easier, we have translated a  guide to choosing a hunting camera , but this one comes from the USA where they are obsessed with hunting cameras. If you ask us, there is too much choice, as they have tested as many as 50 hunting cameras Acorn, Bushnell, Reconyx and other well-known names of hunting surveillance cameras.

Areas covered by the mms gsm hunting surveillance camera purchase guide

We are interested in how to quickly trigger the camera and create an image. How long does it take to re-paint, so regeneration time. We are interested in how many batteries go into the camera and what type and duration of batteries. Then there are the LEDs that provide optimal night images. They are hunting cameras that use black or blue LEDs that glow at 940Nm and are invisible to the naked eye at a distance of more than 1 meter. And there are hunters who use red LEDs that illuminate the area 20% longer, but assuming they also glow red. And last but not least, there are hunting cameras with classic flashes that trigger a flash just like our camera and we use them where the animals don't mind, don't scare them and wherever discretion is needed.

that's not all…

In the future, we will also be interested in the quality of the photo taken, which is from 5MP, 12MP to 20MP. 20 megapixel hunting surveillance cameras are currently a more marketing affair as it is basically still 12MP only to programmatically multiply the pixels in the image and the image is very similar to 12MP if not worse in night conditions. Then we will also talk about the hunting camera screen here. Some cameras are without, others with a screen. It is especially useful for a test to see what area we will cover if we put hunting surveillance cameras there and what if I am. B

1.3 Hunting Camera and Power Supply

  1. Batteries

The hunting camera works with the help of 8 AA batteries (12V power supply, which ensures good operation of all camera functions); can work with alkaline, high quality NiMH and lithium rechargeable batteries. However, we recommend that you power the camera with NiMH and lithium batteries, as alkaline batteries perform much worse than NiMH or lithium batteries.

The batteries must be inserted as shown on the inside of the battery housing. Faulty battery electrodes can damage the device. We also recommend replacing the batteries when the power icon on the camera screen or photo stamp is blank.

Note: Do not mix different types of batteries! The various batteries used in the camera can cause permanent damage, which also violates the warranty policy!

Due to different settings, object activity within the hunting camera detection area, different brands and qualities of batteries and use of the environment, etc .; we cannot specify the exact number of images and videos that the hunting camera can achieve. The table below shows only approximate numbers of images and videos that a hunting camera can capture with 8AA alkaline batteries; better performance can be achieved with 8 AA rechargeable NiMH batteries and lithium batteries.

  1. Solar cells

To provide users with a better user experience, our engineers have designed this camera to work with most standard 12V1 ~ 2 A built-in lithium battery solar cells. However, AA NiMH rechargeable batteries or lithium batteries require a higher charging voltage that solar cells cannot charge when using batteries in the camera body.

  1. Power adapter — For security monitoring purposes

This hunting camera can also be powered by an external 12V / 1 ~ 2 DC adapter. We recommend that you remove AA-size batteries when using the power adapter. Electrical power is recommended for protection purposes.

1.4 Choosing an SD card

A memory card must be used to operate the hunting camera. When the hunting camera is “on” and the memory card is not used, the display shows “Please insert a memory card”. The SD slot on the camera has a capacity of 32 GM memory. The camera must be "turned off" before inserting or removing a memory card. Failure to do so may result in loss of or damage to images already taken on the memory card. When the SD card is full, “Memory full” appears on the screen. The following data shows the approximate amount of images that can be taken with the camera, depending on the capacity of the memory card.

The table below shows you the approximate capacity of different sizes of SD cards. Please check which card size best suits your needs.

  6. 6. When the camera is turned on, do not insert or remove the SD card and batteries, or turn the adapter on and off.
  7. 7. Do not leave floating objects, such as sheets, ropes, or tape, in the 3M motion detection area of the camera to avoid errors in images or videos.
  8. 8. Do not store the camera near hot unimportant objects, air vents and lights, etc. to avoid errors in images and videos.
  9. 9. The hunting camera comes with a 92 ° FOV lens, which means more flash is needed to get better night images than the average 52 ° FOV lens on the market; therefore, 56 partial 60 ° IR LED bulbs are used on this camera. However, ensure that these 56-piece IR LED bulbs can provide enough flashes to support a wide-angle lens, and high-quality AA batteries need to be used properly to provide enough power to consistently illuminate the device in dark environments.
  10. 10. The set date / time can be stored in the camera for 12 hours while the camera has been charged for 1 hour.

  1. Odpravljanje težav

6.1 Slike ne zajemajo predmet zanimanja

  1. 1. Preverite nastavitve parametra ”Stopnja senzorja” (PIR občutljivost).
Poskusite usmeriti kamero nad tlemi.
  4. 4. Poskusite namestiti kamero na stabilne in nepremične predmete, npr. velika drevesa.
  5. 5. Ponoči lahko detektor gibanja zaznava izven obsega IR osvetlitve. Zmanjšajte nastavitve razdalje s prilagajanjem senzorja občutljivosti.
  6. 7. Sončni vzhod ali zahod lahko sprožita senzor. Kamero je potrebno preusmeriti.

  3. 3. Prepričajte se, da je stikalo za vklop kamere na ”On” položaju in ne na ”Off” ali ”Testnem” načinu.

  1. 1. 4 pieces of AA batteries are not capable of supporting the night vision capabilities of the hunting camera; please insert 8 pieces of AA batteries;
  2. 2. Make sure the batteries are fully charged or have enough remaining power;
  3. 3. “Maximum Range” offers better IR flash range. Depending on the range of the IR flash, the values are based on the maximum range settings; therefore, adjust Night mode to the maximum range for better flash range in night view;
  4. 4. High quality 1.5V NiMH or lithium AA rechargeable batteries can also offer a much better range of IR flash; alkaline batteries at night can not constantly provide enough power to illuminate;
  5. 5. To ensure the accuracy and quality of night images, place the camera in a dark environment without any obvious light sources;
  6. 6. Certain environments (e.g. trees, walls, floors, etc.) within the range of the flash can provide you with better night images; please do not point the hunting camera at a completely open field where there is nothing within the range of the IR flash that could repel the flash back; it’s like shining a lamp into the sky at night, you can’t see anything; the same goes for the camera;

6.4 Hunting camera images do not cover the subject of interest

  1. 1. Check the settings of the “Sensor level” parameter (PIR sensitivity). Set the Sensor Level to “High” in warm environments and set the sensor to “Low” when used in cold weather.
  2. 2. Try to set your camera to an area where there are no heat sources in the field of view of the hunting camera.
  3. 3. In some cases, setting the camera close to water may cause the hunting camera to capture images without an object on them. Try pointing the camera above the ground.
  4. 4. Try to avoid installing the camera on small trees that are susceptible to movement due to strong winds.
  5. 5. Remove any branches that are directly in front of the hunting camera lens.

Lovske kamere in nasveti za lovce in kvaliteten zajem video posnetkov

Hunting cameras can be an effective surveillance tool to help you catch the biggest roe deer which means more meat in your freezer. However, if your hunting camera is not used properly, you will not get these results. Here are 8 tips for hunting cameras to help you achieve better results.

Do not set the hunting camera to record in the sun

Your mother nature probably told you the same thing. However, when we talk about hunting cameras, this hint is even more important. Nothing will make you more nervous than looking at captured images of your camera and finding only dozens (or hundreds) of images that show nothing but overexposed photos. Reason? Excessive sunlight and animal movement.

Turning the hunting camera into the sun leads to temperature changes (rising / falling) together with the summer / autumn wind, which causes the movement of nature. Your camera combines this and immediately thinks there is an animal moving nearby. This consumes valuable space on the memory card ... and you will be disappointed to discover that the captured images are not huge deer, but only ... sunlight.

While this is not always possible, we recommend turning the hunting camera to the north.

Hunting cameras are sensitive to heat and movement, so try not to expose them to these factors before a living creature appears.

Make it resistant to theft

The sad but real fact is that there are great chances that the camera will not always be waiting for you when you return to the forest if you do not protect or lock it properly. While there are a few commercial camera lock boxes, these still allow for a lot of theft options. The truth is, you can’t stop a determined thief. If you happen to live or hunt in an area that hosts bears, then a difficult option is your only solution. You can create such protection yourself:

A bear can destroy a hunting camera in just a few seconds if it is not heavily protected.

Cover up your scent

The hunting season may be a few months away, but the adult deer you hunt will smell that you have e.g. previously stopped at a gas station and then entered his world. The animal will respond accordingly.

To correct this dilemma, every time you visit a hunting camera, you have to act as if you are going hunting. This means you need to make sure you are as free of unwanted odors as possible. This includes shoes, clothes and your body. Everything must be clean and odorless. It’s also a good idea to inspect your camera before any major rains.

Set and leave alone

One of the biggest mistakes that hunting camera users make is a lack of control when it comes to reviewing captured images of their camera. True - it's exciting to look at the SD card and see the big antlers, but if you visit your camera regularly, you can expect things to slow down or stop altogether, as you'll scare the deer away. Visit the camera less often - the result is less pressure on each deer you hunt. As you already know, adult deer do not respond well to pressure in any form.

Hunting cameras and a guide to properties

The hunting camera can have low light, No light, Hyper shock, ARD, the list goes on and on. And, if you are buying a new hunting camera, it is very important to understand what these terms mean, what features you need and simply “need.” Let’s get started.

Camera flash

Perhaps one of the most debated features of a hunting camera is the type of flash when the camera emits it when triggered. There are a variety of flash options available and choosing the best one is your own opinion on how mature deer respond to the flash itself. We recently received several opinions on how different flashes can scare deer. The following flash options are available.

Flash without light

Cameras with a "no light" flash are equipped with black LEDs that are completely invisible not only to the eyes of animals but also people. It is important to note that all images will be captured with this flash in black and white at night.

We will also mention that the most popular among us are cameras with this type of flash, especially if the cameras are installed in sensitive places. The flash distance may not be as long as with other types of flash, but this is usually not as big a problem as if the camera scares the wild.

Flash with a slight glow

This option emits a visible flash, which is significantly reduced. Most of the time, the color of the captured image will be slightly reddish. If you don’t want to pay for a camera without lighting, this is a good alternative. Night images will also be black and white.

White flash

While white flash hunting cameras have come a long way, I won’t delight your intelligence by explaining what this feature means. All images will be colored; night or day. It may provide the best images, but the flash will scare the game by running all the way to the neighboring country. We're kidding ... to some extent.

Some hunting cameras are easier to operate than others. The Primos camera captured in this image is extremely easy to operate. Just turn it on and go.

In connection with flash options, it should be noted that you can expect darker and more grainy night images when using the “no light” option compared to a standard “white flash.” The flash distance also depends on different types of flash. A typically white flash provides the longest distance as it illuminates your surroundings the most.

In addition, you need to consider the number of LEDs that your camera boasts. In general, there is a direct connection md to the number of LEDs and the flash distance. Cameras that carry more IR LEDs often have much more illumination than cameras with fewer LEDs.

Megapixel hunting camera

Customers need to pay attention to the number of megapixels of the camera. In short, the fact that companies boast a high number of megapixels often does not mean that your images will be of high quality. The reason is simple. Megapixels mean nothing compared to the lens quality of the selected camera. The easiest way to determine the right image quality is to look at real, already captured images. You can achieve this by browsing websites, forums, other social networks.

Hunting Camera and Capturing Methods

When it comes to capturing images, your hunting camera can do this in two ways; pictures and clips. The images are great, but the advantages of the recording option are that during the recording, the user has the opportunity to actually see the world of game (for a minute) and see their behavior. Often this can reveal more information than just one image frozen in time.

Historically, users of hunting cameras have had to choose between capturing an image or a short shot, but companies like Bushnell now offer cameras that can actually capture both species and thus deliver the best of both worlds.

Trigger speed

The speed of the trigger or the time of the trigger is actually the time it takes for the hunting camera to capture the image when the animal was detected. Trigger speed is a very important trait that can certainly mean the difference between seeing or not seeing, especially deer. However, this may not be the most important feature of the camera, which is installed next to the control room, as deer will stay in this area longer. This will allow the slow shutter camera to have more time to "wake up" and capture the image.

Nevertheless, it must be said that high-speed cameras can capture a wave of images that would not be possible to capture with a slow shutter speed. We have seen cameras that have rating speeds ranging from 0.13 seconds to over 1.3 seconds. The guys at Trailcampro.com keep an updated list of shutter speeds for many cameras from different manufacturers.

A hunting camera mounted on a game trail (where animals move quickly) must be high

shutter speed ... to capture a good image.

Recovery time and hunting camera

The time it takes for a camera to “turn on” or “recycle” after it has captured an image is called the recovery time. While slow trigger speeds can mean missed opportunities, slow recovery times can mean the same thing.

The camera recovery times verified on Trailcampro.com show that this can stretch from under a second to more than 1 minute! While affordable cameras may seem appealing, we recommend that you make sure the trigger and recovery time is appropriate, especially if you’re going to install the camera on the go.

Perception area

The "detection area" of a hunting camera is an invisible area that starts at the front of the camera and extends outward in a V-shape; it gets bigger with distance. This "area" is the space in which the camera detects movement. When motion is detected, the camera will activate and capture the image or start recording.

When talking about the detection area, be aware of how wide and how long your model is, because, depending on the place of use, you may not need a very large area. Apparently the high numbers in both areas allow the camera to find more motion and capture more images and vice versa. While we may find it annoying, Trailcampro has a very useful post about trail camera detection areas that shows which cameras stand out.

Like PIR

"PIR" means passive infrared and as PIR refers to the degree to which the camera can detect movement. Cameras that have a large PIR angle can detect movement faster and are more likely to capture the subject in the center of the frame compared to the edges than some low-quality cameras have. If you’ve ever seen half a deer among the captured images of your trail camera, then you need to understand the effects of a low PIR angle; say 10 degrees. High quality cameras usually have a PIR angle of 48 degrees. As a result, such cameras can capture almost anything that moves in their range of motion; not to mention the animals that move around the area quickly.

Sensitivity adjustment

This refers to the fact how sensitive the camera is to objects moving in front of it. Simply put, a camera with a HIGH sensitivity rating covers everything from white-tailed deer to monkeys. Cameras with a LOW sensitivity rating will forget about all the little things and focus on bigger animals. Some cameras allow users to change the setting, others do not.

The advantage of the ability to change the sensitivity on the camera is that from time to time the sensitivity assessment extends beyond the flash area. As a result, users can change and customize the two to better match each other’s options.

Laser targeting

This feature allows users to hang up the camera and then visually see where the lens is pointing - via a laser. In certain areas, this option is of great importance, but in flat areas it is not necessary.

Burst mode

Instead of capturing a single image when triggered, the “burst mode” allows the camera to capture a predetermined amount of images before stopping. For example, a deer will step in front of the camera and the camera will capture 3 images (one after the other) after the reset. This is great for cameras set up on trails where you’ll want to receive as many pictures of a passing deer as possible. This way, you will quickly charge your memory card.

GPS Geotag

A higher quality hunting camera now offers the ability to automatically embed GPS coordinates of your camera's position on maps to make tracking game movement easier. If you are going to use DeerLab to manage and analyze your images, you will not need this feature, as we automatically calculate your coordinates when you place the camera on the included satellite map.

Wireless connectivity

The hunting camera, which boasts a wireless feature, allows users to view images on their camera without removing the SD card from the camera. This is great when you don’t want to disturb the space around the camera in any way. Images are captured and sent to the user via email, message or other space that allows data to be downloaded and viewed. The only downside to using the wireless feature is the price. Users typically have to pay for a free service and only buy a camera. Also, depending on the area, the wireless feature may be an option for your camera, but it will not work due to poor reception in the area.

Freeze movement and freeze frame triggers

Several hunting cameras on the market are available with a range of trigger technology that reduces the chances of capturing blurry images due to a trigger that has been open for too long during the capture process. This is a great property; especially if your cameras hang primarily over paths or wherever animals usually move quickly. There’s nothing worse than capturing a picture of a big deer, but the picture is completely traveling. Such problems are a thing of the past if your camera has this feature.

SD card capacity

If you expect to capture a large number of images, make sure your camera has an SD card with plenty of space. If it doesn’t, the small card will charge quickly, which means you’ll need to visit your camera more often. As a result, the game will quickly become aware of your presence.

Long standing on your feet is much easier if you are aware that the deer of your dreams is nearby.

Timestamp

Hunters want to know everything they can about the animals that follow them. This includes factors such as weather, moon phases, biometric pressure, and so on. Cameras that offer the ability to tag data provide users with the date, time, phase of the moon, and temperature at the time the image was captured. If you want these tags to be pasted on every image your camera captures - great. If not, some cameras allow you to turn off this feature. Others do not.

If you use DeerLab, you will be able to receive all of the above information and additional information that the camera itself cannot detect - regardless of the type of camera you have (as long as it has a timestamp in Exif data. See how DeerLab uses timestamps from pictures.

Battery life

One of the biggest gaps in using a hunting camera is the number of returns to the camera you need to make to check your SD card or change batteries. Battery issues are taken care of if you choose the right camera. While some manufacturers claim a 1-year battery life, not all cameras display this tag. Some can work for less than a month - depending on the level of activity in the area where you use the camera.

Before buying, be sure to check out the reviews of the brand of your choice. Choosing the right choice will save you a lot of money even if you buy a more expensive camera. Trail cameras with a good reputation include Bushnell, Reconyx and Moultrie.

The substance in the battery can also significantly increase or decrease the amount of battery and thus the camera's performance. Lithium batteries; otherwise more expensive but last longer, are better in cold weather and can increase camera flash distance. Nickel Metal Hydride (Nimh) rechargeable batteries are also a good choice - depending on your location. If you live in a hot area, be careful, as such batteries have no reputation for long life in hot weather,

Conclusion

Something new seems to be added to the list of hunting camera features every year. All of them are useful, but not all are necessary. Start by understanding what each property does, and then ask yourself if you really need that property before you pay for it. This is the best way to buy the best camera.

Move or stay

Spend enough time with the hunting camera and you will learn the art of behavior, when to move it and when you need to be patient and let it do its job. Don’t be afraid to move your camera if you think there is a better place. Hunters often wait far too long and expect deer to appear suddenly. It may or may not be. It all depends on the time of year, the food that is available ... Before deciding whether to move the post or stay, think about all these factors. For more information on this topic, be sure to check out our "Camera Layout Strategies for Different Seasons" issue.

Location, Location, Location

The best hunting camera will not help if you choose a bad location. Consider the time of year and what your goals are.

Conclusion

A hunting camera is a great tool for observation. However, with some forethought and preparation, you can increase their performance regardless of which camera you use.

We want to hear your opinion. Do you have a secret to help you choose a camera? If you have it, we want to hear it. Share your best tactics below.

If you choose images, we recommend cameras that are great for taking photos. These cameras may or may not have video capabilities, but they will be used primarily to capture them.

Videos and pictures

If you choose videos, we recommend cameras that have video options and / or are great for videos. These cameras can record both videos and images.

A leap in time

You’re probably familiar with small “time-skip” cameras that are typically installed near feeding areas. Time skipping technology automatically captures images at preset intervals from 1 minute to 1 hour - the time period of your choice. Users can then view the all-day activity in just minutes. This feature is now available on standard trail cameras.

Some manufacturers offer this feature with two time frames so you can control the sunrise and sunset.
